BRIDESMAIDS MOVIE WALMART SERIES
The opening is a series of rapid-fire scenes introducing our characters. Part of the problem is simply the film's wonky pace, which switches things up far too much.

At over two hours, however, Bridesmaids is overlong and often a bit tedious. Kudos to the filmmakers for letting the film breathe a little. Alas, there's simply way too much improv comedy mucking things up, drowning out an otherwise Oscar-worthy narrative with too much superfluous matter. As such, it's rich with interesting characters, fascinating dynamics and a broad range of emotion. At its core, Bridesmaids is really an uncomfortable little indie drama, with a few bright splashes of comedy thrown in to keep audiences from weeping. And her best friend is getting married, leaving her in the dust. She's sleeping with a sleazebag (hilariously played by Jon Hamm). Kristen Wiig delivers an Oscar-worthy performance as Annie, a young 30-something on the long road to nowhere. That doesn't mean Bridesmaids is a bad movie – not by a long shot, in fact. But as a whole, Bridesmaids feels fragmented and poorly paced, the result of an overlong running time and a few curious artistic decisions. And equally great, emotionally rich characters. Quite a few dramatic points that work better than expected.

There are some truly hilarious sequences. There are a lot of great moments in Bridesmaids.
